Details of the Day
Today’s race was the final in the Round of 8, reducing the NASCAR Playoffs field to the Championship 4 before the season finale in Phoenix next weekend.
The No. 42 team had to restart at the tail of the field twice after a penalty on Lap 135 and Lap 190.
On Lap 350, the No. 42 team got back on the lead lap with the Lucky Dog after the caution was shown, and was able to race their way into the top 15 by day's end.
The caution flag was shown 12 times for a total of 83 laps.
The lead changed 20 times among 10 drivers.
Phil Surgen, Crew Chief, No. 42 Clover Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE “We had an uphill fight today from the drop of the green flag with our starting position, but Matt and the guys did a nice job all race to keep working to get the car better and gain positions. Both penalties came at inopportune times after we had made up a good bit of track position and then had to go to the tail of the field, but fortunately both penalties came early enough in the race for us to drive back toward the front. So, proud of everyone for the effort today and the top-15 finish.”
