I became a fan of Matt's back in 1996 when he raced the Kraft Singles car at the Nashville Fairgrounds speedway. He finished in the top 10 and I loved seeing that car on the track.
I watched every Busch race after that so I could see him race. I was so glad when he won the race at Rockingham and he didn't even have a sponsor. I think he opened many eyes that day.
When he went to Cup in 2000, I was so hoping he would win Rookie of the Year. With Dale Jr. being so popular, I wasn't sure Matt would get it, but he showed all of us he could drive and beat Jr.
I saw Matt at some of the tracks, but never really got to see him up close. I joined the Fan Club in 2002 (or 2003) and I went to Wisconsin to the Fan Club party in 2003 when he won the championship. I had so much fun and met so many wonderful people. I still talk with them today. I was so excited to get to see Matt up close and had my picture taken with him. He was so very nice.
Since I have been a fan, I have enjoyed several fan events. One that I will always remember is when Matt had the fan club party at Dells Raceway Park. He was giving some lucky fans a ride in the race car and I was one of the lucky ones. I was so excited that when I got in the car, I told him, "Now I'm not scared, so let's git-r-done!" He gave the ride of a lifetime, one I will never forget.
I don't always get to attend some events, living here in Tenn., but I do go to some of the tracks to watch Matt race. I have seen Matt win at Bristol several times.
I look forward to watching Matt race this year and hope to see him back in victory circle. He is a true champion. GO MATT!
