WHAT’S YOUR
RELATIONSHIP WITH MATT KENSETH?
“Matt Kenseth is a superstar in the making and he’s well on
his way,
obviously. He has what it takes and I’ve believed in Matt for
probably
well over a year now. I’ve begged the people at Roush Racing to
get
him under contract before someone else does and we’ve done that.
And now he won his first Busch race, so that sure makes me feel a
lot better than I did a week ago right now. Although, running
sixth at
Daytona was good. But he’s also leading the point standings. He is
a
tremendous driver and if somebody said, ’Why don’t you create from
scratch the ultimate race car driver.’ That’s the one.”

Town Las Vegas 300. Busch qualifying starts Friday at 3:30
Central and the Race is Saturday at 3pm, live on ESPN.

Matt Kenseth, the
25-year-old Busch Series driver from Cambridge, can count Randy
LaJoie among
his fans.
“Kenseth is going to be a very stiff competitor for the
championship this year,” the two-time defending
series champion said. “I would race with him any day of the
week, high or low. There’s some of these guys we race with that I wouldn’t
let valet park my car. Matt is not one of
them.” (2-19-98 Milwaukee
Journal Sentinel)

Matt Kenseth brings
the Lycos #17 into a 6th
place finish at Daytona. After starting the race in 7th,
Matt had worked his way as high as 4th place before an early
race caution brings the lead cars into the pits. Losing several
positions on his pit stop, Matt charges through the field with
the help of some fast drafting partners. A few very close calls
with some wrecks, Matt stays with the lead draft and finishes an
impressive 6th.

MATT KENSETH
No. 17 Lycos Chevrolet:
“I always dreamed of coming to Daytona. It’s so exciting to
be here. It’s been very
stressful the last couple weeks, with our sponsor backing out,
and we just
repainted the car last night for this one-race deal. I’m happy
we finished that good,
for all the things happening this week.”

Lycos
Internet Search engine will be sponsoring Matt today for the
NAPA
Auto Parts 300.

Still-sponsorless
Busch driver Matt Kenseth is getting a high-powered hand in his
search for a sponsor: Roush Racing,
which apparently views Kenseth as a prime “farm-league” prospect. Jack Roush, whose five Winston
Cup drivers include Mark Martin and Jeff Burton, put Kenseth in
his driver development program last year. He likes Kenseth’s
potential, and plans to throw his organization’s marketing
support behind any company that decides to sponsor Kenseth’s
Chevy. (Times-Dispatch)
